The aftermath of the Wayne Rooney Ban.
Yesterday proved a very busy day indeed for the top brass of UEFA, not only did they have to deal with the draw for the Euro 2012 Playoff games but also the disciplinary panel announced their ruling on Wayne Rooney. Their announcement would decide exactly how many games Wayne Rooney would miss at the start of next summers Euro 2012 championships, at the very minimum Wayne Rooney and the English FA knew that he would missout on at least one game of Englands group games.
For those of you who are wondering about exactly where all this furore began we need to rewind to last Friday the 7th of October. England only needed a draw to confirm their qualification for the finals and top their qualification group, all was going well with England cruising to victory even though Montenegro had halved their deficit with a goal making the score 2-1. Then in the 77th minute the moment came for the incident which has divided opinion ever since, Wayne Rooney miscontrolled a pass which Dzudovic proptly gobbled up the Rooney did it and petulently lashed out and kicked the Montenergan’s standing leg. The German Referee Wolfgang Stark had no other option and promptly flourished his red card, there was no argument from Wayne Rooney who left the field promptly.
All in all it capped a bad week for Wayne Rooney with his dad being arrested in connection with the fixing of a scotish football match last year, not surprising this was the story the tabloids were relishing and it was just about to get better. Much to the English FA’s dissapointment UEFA issued Wayne Rooney with a 3 match ban, this means that even though he could still be taken to the championships he will be unable to take part for the duration of the crucial 3 group games.
Wayne Rooney 3 game Ban – How was it recieved
This decision from UEFA has been met with mixed opinions from across the football world, many agreed that the decision sent a clear message that this indiscipline will not be tolerated. Yet it seems just as many feel it is a bit harsh especially due to the magnitude of the games Wayne Rooney will be a mear spectator. As of yet we are unsure if the English FA will appeal the ruling, the main risk of appeal is that UEFA may see this motion as an action of indiscipline from the English FA and increase the lenght of the Wayne Rooney suspension.
