Thailand Golf Championship – Westwood In Charge

The 2011 Thailand Golf Championship moved into day 2 at the Amata Spring Country Club in Chonburi Thailand. The event is an Asian Tour sanctioned event and features star names such as Lee Westwood, British Open Champion Darren Clarke & Spanish golfing Legend Sergio Garcia who are all in the Thailand Golf Championship field.

The purse for the Thailand Golf Championship is $1million and is listed as the flagship event of the Asian Tour. However from the course of action over the first 2 days of the Thailand Golf Championship 2011their appears to be only one winner.

That man is Lee Westwood who shot a 12 under par round of 60 on the opening day after making 10 birdies and a Eagle he carried on his great form into the second day. Westwood shot a second round of 64 which made him 8 under par for the day and 20 under par for the tournament.

Westwood’s halfway score of 124 at the Thailand Golf Championship ties the lowest 36 hole on the Asian Tour where he shares the record with Thailand’s Chapchai Nirat.

Westwood sits atop of the Thailand Golf Championship leaderboard by a clear 11 shots which looks like what could be a tough lead to make a dent in if Westwood continues his top form.

His nearest rivals are Masters Champion Charl Schwartzel & Michael Thompson of America who are 9 under for the Thailand Golf Championship. They are also 3 shots clear of golf Legend John Daly who is 6 under for the tournament.

As the 2011 Thailand Golf Championship moves into its final 2 rounds it will be tough to look bast Lee Westwood to take home the winners cheque.
