Euro 2012 – England kick off campaign with a draw

The Euro 2012 group stages reached the final group which was Group D which features co hosts Ukraine, France, Sweden & England. The 2 obvious favourites from Group D are France & England but they have both had difficult tournaments as of late and they opened the tournament in Donetsk.

Euro 2012 England campaign has been under the radar with limited expectations from the English football fans and the same can be said for France Euro 2012 hopes despite carrying a 21 game unbeaten record into the tournament.

Euro 2012 – England v France

The Euro 2012 Group D opener featured England & France and both teams were looking to open their Euro 2012 Campaign off with a win & England had the better of the Early exchanges as James Milner rounded Lloris in the France goal only to shoot wide.

However it would be England who would open the scoring after captain Steven Gerrard whipped it a free kick which was headed home by Joleon Lescott on the half hour. For Joleon Lescott it was his first goal for the England Senior Team and sent the England fans at the Donbass Arena into raptures.

However the lead for England would only last 9 minutes as the England defence gave Nasri too much room and he slotted a precise 20 yard past Joe Hart at his near post.

The scores would be tied at 1-1 at half time both teams would have been satisfied & the second half was a lot tighter with France getting the better of the chances but the scores would stayed tied at 1-1 which would be a fair result for both teams.

In the second game of the UEFA Euro 2012 Group D saw co hosts Ukraine take on Sweden in Kiev and after a drab 1st half the action was kept for the 2nd half. Ibrahimovic gave Sweden the lead but Ukraine would come from behind to win 2-1 thanks to a Shevchenko double to leave Ukraine on top of Group D after the first game.

Euro 2012 – Gareth Barry’s injury hampers England Win

With the UEFA Euro 2012 competition just a couple of weeks away England kicked off their preparations for the tournament in Poland & Ukraine with a friendly against Norway to kick off England Euro 2012 Campaign.

For England it was the beginning of a new era as it was Roy Hodgson’s first game in charge as England Manager & first game as official England Captain Steve Gerrard.

As with all friendlies before a major competition the game was used as a chance for players in England’s Euro 2012 squad to show the manager why they deserve a place in the starting 11 for the opening game of Euro 2012.

Euro 2012 – England v Norway at the Ullevaal Stadium

The game itself took place in Norway at the Ullevaal Stadium which is the home ground for Valerenga IF and the chance for England to defeat Norway for the first time in 32 years.

The games only goal came in the 9th minute when Man Utd’s Ashley Young scored after a nice pass from Liverpool’s Andy Carroll and that early goal was the decisive one as England ran out victorious with a 1- nil win.

The positives to be taken out of the game from an England point of view for their preparations is that they got a win & kept a clean sheet but the performance was far from perfect. England across the whole of the pitch were guilty of wasting possession. Which when faced off against better opposition in Euro 2012 will doubt be punished where Norway were unable to.

Norway had many opportunities to draw the game level and even win the game but their inability to convert the chances cost them dearly & explains their absence from this summers European Championships.

Gareth Barry Injury Concern for Euro 2012

For England their was one injury concern as Gareth Barry limped off after being brought on as a half time substitute with a groin problem. England will have to asses Barry’s injury before finalising their 23 man squad for Euro 2012.

Englands Euro 2012 preparations will continue next Saturday where they will play Belgium in their final warm up game before facing France on June 11th.

Keeping checking out Real Sporting News for all the news from this summers Euro 2012 Competition.

Euro 2012 results – Tuesday 11th October 2011

Euro 2012

Euro 2012

Hi there and welcome to this Euro 2012 qualification match round up from Real Sporting news, well last night saw the culmination of the UEFA Euro 2012 qualification stage. Many of the teams involved in Tuesday’s matches were fully aware of their fates, some of the teams had already qualified where many had not. Much of the spice in these Euro 2012 matches came from the games where qualification was still achievable, the biggest challenge stood in front of Scotland.

The Euro 2012 qualification route for Scotland saw the Scots placed in a group with world championships Spain, as fate would have it Scotland met Spain in their final Euro 2012 qualification match. However Scotland’s fate was not entirely in their own hands as their result would have to better the Czech Republic’s result against Armenia. If I am totally honest this requirement was always beyond the Scots and Spain totally bossed this game from the start, the result finished with the Spaniard’s cruising to an easy 3-1 victory which saw David Silva score 2 goals whilst David Villa scored his landmark 50th goal for his country. The Scot’s rounded of their Euro 2012 campaign off with a consolation goal from David Goodwillie when he converted a penalty, all in all Scotland’s fans returned to the UK dreaming of what could of been whilst still reflecting on a much improved set of Euro 2012 qualification results.
