Here is another round up of the latest sports news beginning with the build up to the hotly anticipated Champions League final which will feature the 2 giants of the Game Manchester United and Barcelona with the match taking place at the home of football Wembley. The mind games already beginning from both respective manners claiming that the other is the favourite to win the title. Barcelona Manager Pep Guardiola claiming that Manchester United should be favourites as they are playing at home and do not have to travel as far. He may have a point there as due to the current climate situation with the ash cloud they have had to travel 2 days earlier as planned. Where as Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson has said he believes that this current Barcelona squad is better than than the team that beat them 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico in the 08/09 final. We will have to wait until Saturday to see who is ultimately right but hopefully the final will live up to the hype and the stars Lionel Messi & Wayne Rooney will put on a show for the world to with hold.

In other sporting headline news the French Open at Roland Garros the 2nd major tennis tournament of the year began. There have been 2 headline news stories since the story began World Number 1 Rafael Nadal was almost defeated by American Jon Isner when trailing 2 sets to 1 down but managed to pull from behind and take the first round win in 5 sets. Novak Djokovic continued his 6 month unbeaten run with a straight set victory over Thiemo De Bakker of the Netherlands. The tournament still is in its infancy but it would be hard to look past Djokovic with the form he is on at present and has already beater the other top seeds this year.

In American sports the playoff series in both the NHL & NBA are still forging on in the NBA it was the turn of the Western conference with the Dallas Mavericks taking a 3-1 series lead in a 112 – 105 win against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The win came behind a 40 point performance from All Star Dirk Nowitzki who once again showed how valuable he is to this team. The win puts send the Mavericks back home to the American Airlines Centre in Dallas with a chance to clinch the series and set up a NBA finals series with either the Miami Heat or Chicago Bulls.

Meanwhile in the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs the Boston Bruins took a 3-2 series lead over the Tampa Bay Lightning after a 3-1 victory in game 5. The Bruins faithful will be thanking the goaltending of Timmy Thomas after his 33 saves lead to the game 5 win. This series will now go back to Tampa and the Bolts fans will be hoping to send the series to a crucial game 7.

Meanwhile in notable Baseball news in last nights game against the Blue Jays Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter went hitless and is still 25 hits short of 3000.
