At present the Shanghai Masters is not sanctioned by either of the major golf governing bodies with the event completely independent from the PGA or European Tour.

Despite the Shangai Masters Golf tournament being a new tournament it has no shortage of top players in its 30 man field and has 10 major winners including this years US Open champion Rory McIlroy. One of the main reasons players have flocked to the tournament is the $5million prize pool and the $2million dollar cheque for winning the tournament which is the richest winning cheque in golf.

Rory McIlroy struggled on the Shanghai Masters golf tournament final round and lost his 3 shot lead which he held over American Anthony Kim which left many golf fans thinking of his collapse at the Masters earlier on this year.
