The Shanghai Masters golf tournament is in its inaugural season and has drawn many of the top golfers from around the world. Its field of 30 players features 10 major winners with the most notable is Rory McIlroy this years US Open champion. The tournament is not sanctioned by either of the major tours the PGA or the European tour meaning that their are no world ranking points up for the grabs at the Shanghai Masters golf tournament.

The main draw for the players is the amount of money up for grabs which is $2million for the winner, making the Shanghai Masters golf tournament the richest first place prize in golf.

Shanghai Masters Golf – McIlroy on track

Rory McIlroy looks to be on route to picking up the winners trophy as he leads the Shanghai Masters golf tournament by 3 shots on 18 under par. McIlroy shot a bogey free 65 to maintain his lead as he looks to complete a start to finish win in a similar vein to his US Open victory earlier this year.

McIlroys closest rival is the American Anthony Kim who sits on 15 under par after matching McIlroys round but blotted his scorecard with a bogey on the 18th. The next closest opponent is South Korea’s Noh Seung-yul who is on 14 under par 4 shots back of McIlroy after shooting a round of 67.

Other notable players performances at the Shanghai Masters golf tournament is world number 2 Lee Westwood who is sixth on 7 under par but is 11 shots off the lead.
