NHL Stanley Cup Finals Game 6 Round Up

Home Sweet Home is a story which has rang true throughout the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs and with Boston hopeful that heading back to the TD Garden would get them the win to take the game to a decisive Game 7.

Well the story of the playoffs continued on Monday night with the Bruins winning Game 6 which was in thanks to an explosive 1st period. The Bruins opened the scoring on 5:31 when Brad Marchland scored a thunderbolt from the Right Wing over Luongo’s shoulder a shot which he should have stopped. However Luongo’s period did not get much better as just 35 seconds later Milan Lucic tapped the Bruins second goal of the night between the goaltenders legs. For the Bruins though the period got better and better and on 8:35 Andrew Ference scored a slap shot from the blue line which Roberto Luongo missed and allowed for it to hit the back of the net. That was the end of the night for Luongo who was pulled and replaced by Cory Schneider who fared not much better as he conceded the 4th goal of the night when Michael Ryder scored to give the Bruins a 4 nil lead with less than 10 minutes gone in the first period.

For Luongo it was a turn of events from Game 5 where he was the hero by shutting out the Bruins but tonight the game was over almost as soon as it started. Period 2 produced no further scoring but their were plenty of hard hits coming from either team.

Period 3 brought a brief moment of positivity for the Canucks fans when Henrik Sedin scored a quick goal after just 22 seconds but David Krejci put an end to any dreams of a dramatic comeback when he scored after 7 minutes for the Bruins. The Canucks did score another conciliation after 17:34 when Maxim Lapierre but it was too late and the Canucks had to start preparing for Game 7 In Vancouver.

For the Bruins to win they will have to win the 1st road game of the Stanley Cup and the Canucks will have to carry on the home winning streak. More importantly for Boston they need to recreate their home offence at home they have scored 17 goals at home but have only scored 2 goals and have been shut out in 2 of the games.

Whatever happens in Vancouver the game will be a classic Game 7 with tension and drama for sure and the team that holds it together better will hoist the trophy above their heads come the end of the night.

Staying with American sports Jeters quest for 3000 hits may of hit a road block after he had pulled a calf muscle and may need to be placed on the 15 day disabled list. Which would delay him hitting the milestone by 2 weeks. He is 6 hits shy after getting a hit last night before his injury, which may make it harder for him to get the hit at home at Yankee Stadium, the decision will made this evening if he is to be rested or not.
