Nedbank Golf Challenge 2011 – Westwood Wins

Nedbank Golf ChallengeThe Nedbank Golf Challenge came to its conclusion on Sunday from the Sun City Resort in South Africa where the best golfers from the European Tour were on show.

It would be World Number 3 Lee Westwood who would sit atop of the Nedbank Golf Challenge leaderboard with his final round of 1 over par 73 to lead on 15 under par. Westwood won the Nebank Golf Challenge by 2 shots over Robert Karlsson of Sweden.

Westwood had done all of his hard work on Saturday when he shot a course record of 62 which gave him the room at the top of the leaderboard. With the win he retained his Nedbank Golf Challenge title which he won last year and became the sixth golfer to successfully defend their title.

Nedbank Golf Challenge – The World Number 1 returns

The World number one Luke Donald was also playing in the 2011 Nedbank Golf Challenge but he struggled throughout the week and finished on 5 under par for the week which was 10 shots back of the leader Westwood.

The Nedbank Golf Challenge was Donalds first tournament in 5 weeks after he took some time of the rest, however he is back playing golf  as he is looking to top the Race to Dubai Leaderboard.

His lead at the top of the Race to Dubai was cut after his nearest rival Rory McIlroy won the Hong Kong Open. McIlroy won the Hong Kong Open by to clear shots of his nearest rival Gregory Havret of France.

If McIlroy is to top the European Money list he needs to win the Dubai World Championship and Donald will need to finish 10th or worse.

Donalds performance at the Nedbank Golf Challenge did not help his cause to become the first player to top the US & European money lists in the same year.
