MLS Cup 2011 – East & West Conference Finals

MLS CupThe MLS Cup finalists were decided last night after both the Western & Eastern conference finals took place. The MLS Playoffs in the Western conference final pitched David Beckham’s LA Galaxy take on Real Salt Lake who shared the regular season record with both teams getting a home win.

LA Galaxy were playing in front of a packed crowd at the Home Depot Center knowing a win would take them to the MLS Cup final 2011 for the 2nd time in 3 years.

The match was a hard fought game which has typified much of the MLS Playoffs 2011 but slick finishing from the LA Galaxy was enough to see them through to the MLS Cup final.

LA opened the scored from the Penalty spot courtesy of Landon Donovan after Omar Gonzalez was pushed in the box. The Galaxy’s lead was short lived as Real Salt Lake levelled just 2 minutes later to leave the scores tied 1-1 at half time.

The LA Galaxy made sure of the win with 2 second half goals from Robbie Keane & Mike Magee. Real Salt Lake brought on some attacking substitutions but couldn’t break down the LA Galaxy’s second half.

The 3-1 win for the Galaxy booked their ticket to the only game left on the MLS Playoff schedule the MLS Cup final on the 20th November.

MLS Cup – MLS Playoffs Eastern Conference final

The Houston Dynamos will be the Eastern Conference representatives in the 2011 MLS Cup final after they defeated the Kansas City Wizards in Kansas City. Both of the Houston Dynamos goals came in the second half with Andre Hainault scoring in the 53rd minute & Carlo Costly made sure of the win in the 87th minute.

The Houston Dyanamo’s head to the MLS Cup final looking to pick up their first title since 2007.
