Looking forward to Team USA Basketball and the 2012 olympic games

With the London 2012 Olympics just over a year away preparations for the worlds most successful basketball team will no doubt be beginning. Team USA basketball has won 13 gold medals in total and most recently at the Beijing games in 2008 with the Redeem Team. They were known as the Redeem team as the team only managed to get a bronze medal which in the eyes of the demanding American public. Many of the NBA’s stars have committed themselves to the team and want to replicate the successes of the previous teams as the players receive nationwide respect and praise rather than just the city of the team they play for.

It’s an early question to ask but Who will make up the Team USA Basketball Team for next years Olympics in London? Well already major players such as Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard & Chris Paul have said they will be available for next years games these are all Team USA basketball players who worked under Coach K at the last Olympics in 2008 when they took the Gold Medal with a 118 -107 win over Spain to end a 8 year drought as it was its first win since the 2000 Olympics in Athens. The team also failed in the World championships leading to a dark period in USA basketball where many changes were brought about with the organisation of the team and the changes look to have worked as they are reigning Olympic and World Champions after winning the 2010 championships in Turkey.

With the 2010 World championships many of the star names who featured in the Olympic win made themselves unavailable for selection due to Free-Agency, Injuries or they felt they needed a rest after the long NBA Season. This lead the selection committee to choose Team USA Basketball prospects such as Kevin Durant, Kevin Love & Rudy Gay who would have been used in a developmental role in the team had the other stars been available. However they dominated the tournament gained valuable experience of playing tournament basketball which could prove invaluable come next year.

After the unveiling of the team comes the unveiling of the team USA Basketball jersey which will be next summers must have jersey which will feature heavily with the red,white and blue. With a predominantly white Jersey as their home and a Blue jersey as their away/road jersey.

When the Olympic basketball tournament starts the USA basketball team will be the favourites and it will be up to the players to decide wether they want to be known as just the redeem team or the next Dream Team.
