Gary Speed – The World of Football Mourns his death
The football world was left shocked on Sunday Morning when the news of Gary Speed suicide emerged from the former football players home in Cheshire.
Gary Speed had an illustrious playing career and was in the beginning of what looked liked to be a successful managerial career. Speed began his career at Leeds United where he went on to make 312 appearances for the club whilst scoring 57 goals and also won the First Division with the club in 91-92.
He then moved on to Everton the team he supported as a child and even captained the side before then going to Newcastle United where he made 213 appearances & scored 40 goals. In the twilight of his career he played for Bolton Wanderers and Sheffield United who he would go on to manage for 18 games.
Gary Speed played his international career for his native wales where he madeĀ 85 appearances which made him the 2nd highest capped player for Wales.

The most recent role in football for Gary Speed was when he took over as manager of Wales in December 2010 where he led them to 5 wins & 5 losses. It appeared that Speed was making positive changes to the Welsh squad where they defeated Norway 4-1. Since he took charge Wales have moved from 117th to 45th in FIFA World Rankings.
Gary Speed death has left many in the football world in mourning as was shown on Sunday with former team mates, opponents, managers and even the Prime Minister leaving tributes to Gary Speed. With many coming to the agreement that Speed was a truly Ultimate Proffessional and an all round nice guy.
Today saw the Gary Speed Inquest open and close with the news that Gary Speeds wife Louise Speed found his body just before 7am on Sunday. The Inquest has now been adjourned until the 30th January.
