Football News Update – Swansea lose whilst Aguero rises

empty stadiumSwansea became the first Welsh team to play in the Premier League when they took the field against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. Despite being under pressure for much of the first half Swansea managed to go in at half time with the scores level at 0-0. Swansea will have to thank Michel Vorm there £1.5 million signing for keeping the scores tied  after he made first class saves from Silva & Yaya Toure.

The second half Man City came well and truly alive and continued on from the pressure they were applying towards the end of the first half. City fans had to wait until the 57th minute for the opener when Edin Dzeko prodded home after Swansea Keeper Vorm palmed the ball straight into his path. With 30 minutes left in the game it was time to bring on Sergio Aguero who dazzled the City fans from his first involvement and he only had to wait 8 minutes before opening his City account. Micah Richards found the Argentinian at the backpost who slotted home from the goal line.

Aguero would then turn provider for Citys 3rd goal of the game when he hooked the ball back for David Silva to score. Since his introduction Aguero looked first class and had a claim to be his teams Man of the Match and looked to be every bit worth his hefty £39million price tag. However he was not done there and saved the best til last when he sent a rasping drive into the back of the net from 30 yards out to cap a great night for City. Man City finished the game 4 nil and join Bolton at the top of the table.

This summers longest transfer saga for Cesc Fabregas has finally ended today with Barcelona finally getting their man. The final deal was believed to be for just under £35million with £25million upfront with the rest coming in add ons dependant on individual & team performances. Fabregas signed a 5 year deal at the Nou Camp and has a £145million pound release clause in the deal.

The move has sparked many Arsenal transfer rumours with many believing that Boltons Gary Cahill will be Arsene Wenger’s main target.

Another transfer deal which was completed today was the Sale of Robbie Keane to David Beckham’s LA Galaxy. Keane who has been surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane after being sent on loan to West Ham for the second part of last season. The move is reported to be in the region of £3.5 million and will join the Galaxy in their quest to win the MLS title.

In other transfer rumours after selling Robbie Keane & the possibility of selling Peter Crouch to Stoke, Harry Redknapp has turned his attentions to West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie. Odemwingie has been subject to rumours after Wigan had a bid rejected last week, but news of a stall in contract talks could spark further rumours.
