Daily Sports News Update – NBA Playoff Finals And Cricket
Welcome back to your daily sporting news update and today we shall begin with the playoff action happening in the NBA. After Fridays dramatic come from behind win for the Dallas Mavericks they headed home to Dallas with the momentum firmly in their court.
However the Miami Heat came out the blocks fastest outscoring the Mavs 29-22 in the first quarter. The Mavs worked hard in the next quarter and shorten the lead to 5 points at half time. However it took till the final couple of minutes till the game really came to life Chris Bosh hit the game winning shot with 39.6 seconds remaining in the game and the Mavericks had no answer to that score despite Dirk Nowitzki having a chance to tie the game with the last remaining seconds but the Heats Udonis Haslim played great Defence on the shot and Dirk was unable to drain the fadeaway and this has been a theme of this playoff series with Heat playing Lockdown Defence when needed. The won the game 88-86 and now lead the series 2-1 which history says is huge for the Heat. Since 1985 when the 2-3-2 format begun when a series was tied gaining into game 3 the team that won game 3 has gone onto win the finals 11 out of 11 times.
The heat now have look to carry on the initiative and win atlas one more game away from home. My money is resting firmly on the Heat winning the NBA title and with it Lebrons 1st championship, however will this be as significant of a win as if he had won one in Cleveland? I would say the simple answer is no he has joined 2 superstars in Miami if he would have won the title in Cleveland with the Cavs it would have been rejoiced in much wider circles. I do not however take away how well this Heat team have gelled and bonded together in the face of the hate and criticism put there way.
Moving Away from American Sports and onto the traditional English summer Sport of Cricket where England are in Day 4 of their second test against Sri Lanka. Englands bowling performance picked up from a poor showing on days 2 & 3 and managed to bowl them all out for 479 with England still leading by 7 runs. It was looking bad at the beginning of Englands second Innings when Captain Andrew Strauss was out LBW on the 2nd ball of the Innings. That was the only panic as Cook and Trott steadied the ship before he was removed for 58. Cook and Pietersen will return to crease at the start of Day 5 with a lead of 156 runs. Unless lightning strikes twice and Sri Lanka have another dramatic collapse this match is heading for a draw.
With not much going on in the football world other than numerous football transfer rumours Wayne Rooney made Headline News with the image of his freshly transplanted hair line. What a slow news day huh?
