A round up of Wednesdays football action from Wednesday saw 4 matches matches take place in the NPower Championship. The highlight game was the match between 2 teams with 100 % records Cardiff & newly promoted Brighton. It would be the Brighton fans who would be enjoying their long trip back to the south coast after a 3-1 win would maintain their perfect start to the season. The first goal of the game would come in the 39th minute when Ashley Barnes capitalised on a Cardiff defensive mistake to open the scoring. It would be Barnes again who doubled the visitors lead when he slotted in a penalty after Craig Mackail-Smith was fouled in the area by Cardiff defender Mark Hudson. The points were secured for the seagulls when Will Hoskins out away their 3rd of the game, Cardiff did manage a consolation goal when Peter Whittingham scored an 89th minute penalty but it was too little too late.
There was another battle of the 100% records on Wednesday night when Blackpool & Derby went head to head at Bloomfield road. In what was a close encounter it was the visitors Derby who would return back to the East Midlands with the 3 points and their 100% record intact. The only goal of the game came in the 2nd half when Derby’s new signing Craig Bryson was first to react after Matt Gilks parried a Davies free kick. The win gives Derby their 3rd consecutive win of the league season which is the first time they have started the season with 3 wins since 1948.

Adebayor is seen as surplus to requirements at the Etihad stadium and is available to leave the club but the players £170k per week wages looks to be the main stumbling block.

The most surprising result of Wednesdays qualifiers was Danish side Odense BK defeating Spanish side Villarreal 1-0.
