Daily Sports News Stories – Wimbledon 2011 Update and Football Transfer News

Wednesday was Mens Semi Final day at Wimbledon and things didn’t go according to plan for one of the top 4 seeds who went crashing out of at the Quarter Final stage.french open tennis

The number 3 seed Roger Federer and 6 time Wimbledon champion was leading his opponent Jo Wilfried Tsonga 2 sets up after winning the first 2 sets. He then however Federer would lose the last 3 sets and earned himself an early exit from his favourite Grand Slam. The loss for Roger Federer was the second consecutive year where he has exited at the Quarter final stage and also the loss was the first time he has lost a Grand Slam match when leading by 2 sets. Tsonga won the match 3-6 6-7(3-7) 6-4 6-4 6-4.

Tsonga would then face the winner of the Djokovic and Bernard Tomic match which was being played over on Court Number. The unseeded Tomic had made an unbelievable run to the quarter finals but he couldn’t quite beat the number 2 Seed Novak Djokovich. Djokovich won the match in four sets 6-2 3-6 6-3 7-5, the match wasn’t going all the Serbian’s way and his opponent Tomic did have opportunities but couldn’t capitalise. Djokovich will now face Tsonga in the Friday’s Semi final and the other Semi FInal Will feature World number 1 Rafael Nadal & British Number 1 Andy Murray.

Nadal booked his place in the Semi Final with a 4 set victory over American Mardy Fish 6-3 6-3 5-7 6-4. Despite losing the the 3rd set Nadal never looked in danger of being eliminated from the tournament and his injury didn’t look to be bothering him.

Murray had a much more straight forward task in his straight sets 6-3 6-4 6-4 over Feliciano Lopez and out classed his opponent from start to finish. In my opinion Murray is playing his best tennis i have seen him play at Wimbledon and I think this year is his best chance to win the competition. In order for him to win Wimbledon 2011 he must over see the world number 1, who he was beaten by  just over a month ago at the French Open in straight sets.

Leaving the action at SW19 and looking at the latest football news and Man Utd have confirmed their 3rd signing of the summer with capture of Spain U21 goalkeeper David De Gea for an estimated £19million pounds, he is seen as the long term replacement for the recently retired Edwin Van der Sar. The latest transfer rumours are still concerning the Cesc Fabregas transfer to Barcelona & Manchester City’s pursuit of Alexis Sanchez. With the amount of speculation relating to the 2 transfer I am expecting theses transfer to be completed this before the summer transfer window slams shut.
