Daily Sports News Stories Update – England Cricket, NFL Lockout and Football Transfer Rumours.
Today England Cricket team begun its biggest challenge of the summer as the 4 game test between England & India begins at the Home of Cricket Lords. If England are to win by 2 clear games they will be crowned the Number 1 in Test cricket, but England haven’t beaten India since 1996.
The battle to be ranked the Number 1 Test Cricket team begins today between England & India which is the 2000th test match and is the 100th test match between England & India. Another milestone which is expected to be reached during the test is legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar reaching his Century of Centuries. What a way it could be if Tendulkar could get his milestone century on the honours board at the home of golf.
Moving onto the action on day 1 and England had been put into bat by the tourists under the grey skies at Lords. The Indian bowlers got straight into the England openers and Alastair Cook was sent back to the changing rooms after 36 balls and made 12 runs from the bowling of Zaheer Khan. Zaheer Khans work was not finished he claimed his 2nd wicket by catching Andrew Strauss LBW for just 22 runs.
However it was not all doom and gloom for England as the partnership of Trott `and Pietersen carried England to 127 for 2 before the rain set in an force time to be called.
With neither team on top in the game and with 4 days left the result could go either way and will be a great watch over the weekend.
Moving onto American sports news and the NFL Lockout and sources close to the situation are claiming that a deal pleasing all parties may now be on the table. Owners look to be voting on the new collective bargaining agreement between 3:30 & 5:30 eastern time. Still the matter remains to be seen if the owners vote Yes to the agreement which would require 24 of the 32 owners to agree, would the lockout be lifted? If they OK the deal it is expected it will be thrown to the players to say sign or don’t sign.
Since the lockout began in march this is the closest we have been to a permanent lifting of the Lockout, I for one hope they reach an agreement as what is winter without Football, how will i spend my Sunday’s and Monday Evenings. No doubt all will be revealed with an overall agreement being reached with some minor niggles to be ironed out. In the words of legendary announcer John Madden “Let’s play some Football.
In our final look at today’s sports news lets take a look at the latest football transfer rumours and firstly take a look at Arsenals bid to sign Phil Jagielka from Everton. The London club appear to be trying solve their defensive issues by signing the 28 year old England International, but a £10million bid has been rejected, meaning a bigger bid or another target are only to choices for the gunners.
In Tevez transfer saga which appears never ending after Corinthians pulled out of their move for the Argentinian with Tevez staying he still wants to leave the club. Many believe he will remain at Eastlands as his asking price is too high and with City’s chase to sign Sergio Aguerio still happening despite the halt to the Tevez deal could see Tevez sitting in the comfy Recaro seats for part of the season at least. I admire City’s tactics in the saga with them not getting bullied into a move just because the player says so.
