Daily Sports News Stories – England v India Test Cricket and Hungarian Formula One
Sunday was the beginning of Day 3 of the second test between India & England and England started the day trailing the tourists first innings score by 43 runs. In what was a great day for the England batters might well be remembered for an interesting piece of sportsmanship from the Indian captain.
The situation in question is in relation to a run out for Ian Bell just before Tea where Ian Bell was run out after thinking Eoin Morgan had hit a boundary on the last ball of the over. In fact the ball did not hit the boundary as Praveen Kumar had cut the ball off before hitting the boundary and had thrown the ball into Abhinav Mukund who whipped the bails off. The tourists appealed for the wicket and the umpires called for the third umpire who declared Bell out to the frustration of the Trent Bridge crowd.
However the issue did not end there as during the tea break India captain Dhoni during the tea interval rescinded India’s appeal for the wicket allowing Bell to return to the crease. It was an interesting decision by Dhoni leaving pundits dumfounded by his decision, but with many agreeing the decision continued with the sportsmanship of the game.
However lets not let this overshadow the fantastic batting performance from the England batters and in particular Ian Bell who was the top scorer with 159 runs he would have scored 137 if he would have been out on the controversial run out. He was supported by Pietersen on 63 and Morgan with 70, and with Prior and Bresnan still at the crease on 64 & 47 respectively. England currently sit at 441-6 and are in the lead by 374 runs, giving England yet another commanding position in the test.
I will now expect England to bat for a further session at least tomorrow and build an insurmountable lead to ensure that the game cannot be lost. There is no doubt we will be in for an exciting 2 days of cricket between the 2 best test cricket teams in the world.
Moving away from cricket news and onto the action at Hungary where in his 200th Grand Prix Jenson Button sat on top of the podium where a better use of his pit stops gave him the victory. McLaren will be happy with their cars after winning the past 2 grand Prix’s ahead of their major rivals Red Bull. Championship lead Vettel finished in second and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso finished off the podium positions. F1 now moves into its summer break and will resume in Belgium on the weekend of the 26th-28th August.
That ends our F1 news roundup and we will now skip across the pond for our look at the frenzied NFL news since the lockout and today we learned where Plaxico Burress ended up. Many of you will not be surprised to hear he ended up playing football at the New Meadowlands Stadium but he will not be playing for Big Blue he will be playing for the Jets. The contract is a rumoured 1 year deal with a $3million deal which is all guaranteed.
That concludes our look at the stories on sporting events making sports news this Sunday and be sure to check back tomorrow for some Real Sporting News.
