England have started their summer test series exactly how they would have wanted to with a dominant performance against the tourists. England won the first test by 196 runs to win the first test and have started their journey to be the number 1 test team in the best way possible. In order to obtain number 1 status they will need to beat India by a 2 match margin and England are now in pole position to get the result they need.

With any result possible the fans turned up in their droves queuing up outside Lords hoping to get in with some fans queuing up from 2.00 am and fans were being turned away at 9.30 when all tickets had been sold. Those lucky to get a ticket were hoping to see 9 wickets fall and that they did.

They didn’t have to wait long until the first wicket fell as the vital wicket of “the wall” Raul Dravid after 30 minutes of play and the rest of the wickets fell steadily throughout the day. Tendulkar fell well short of his 100th century as he could only  muster 12 runs before being trapped LBW by Jimmy Anderson. The pick of the Indian batters were VVS Laxman who reached 56 and Raina who scored but it was all in vein as the England bowlers completed their task.

Anderson finished with 5-65 and Broad returned to form with 3-57 and took the final wicket. Despite all the criticism aimed at Stuart broad he managed to perform his best cricket of the summer so far and fully justified his selection.

Even though the tourists suffered from injuries and Illness it is still a great result for England and they had to get the result and they will move to Trent Bridge on Friday with the momentum.

Moving away from Cricket news and moving onto the latest football news and Aston Villa are beginning their rebuilding after selling Ashley Young and Stewart Downing. Today they have had a reported £9million bid accepted for Wigan winger Charles N’zogbia. N’Zogbia is undoubtedly a talented player but can an inconsistent attitude but could prove to be a suitable replacement for either Young or Downing.

In transfer rumours Man City appear to want to sign Athletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero whether or not Carlos Tevez moves on. Man City officials are now reported to be in Madrid putting the final touches to the reported £40million deal.

Moving away from football and onto NFL news where it now appears that the NFL Lockout is on its way to being lifted with the players union appearing to have finalise the collective bargaining agreement. If the rumours are to be believed we could see the beginning of training camps and free agency by the end of the week.
