Daily Sports News Stories – England Cricket, NFL Lockout and Football Transfer Rumours
The England Cricket team have took pole position in the first test with India after a fantastic batting performance from Kevin Pietersen. England began the day on 127-2 leaving the game on a knife edge leaving either side the chance to take the Initiative. The Indians were left without their top seamer Zaheer Khan who is struggling with a hamstring injury he picked up in the First Inning.
England seized the moment, especially batsmen Kevin Pietersen who scored a magnificent unbeaten 202 and left his team on an impressive 474-8 first Inning score. The score for Pietersen will get his name put up on the honours board at Lords but he also became the 4th quickest to 6000 runs in an England shirt. Captain Andrew Strauss declared once Pietersen had hit his milestone and left the tourists to bat out 6 overs in darkening conditions at Lords.
The Indian openers Gambhir & Mukund saw out the 6 overs to finish the second day on 17 without loss. The England bowlers will now need to complete the work start by their batting counterparts in order to help secure a precious 1st test victory at Lords. Jimmy Andersen will be hoping for cloudier conditions tomorrow to see if he can swing the ball on the Lords pitch.
Moving away from Cricket News and moving onto some transfer rumours and signings in amongst the British Leagues. The biggest move today has been the transfer of Barry Ferguson from Birmingham to Championship promotion rivals Blackpool for a nominal fee. The Scottish international is just one of many players to leave the Blues since their exit from the Premier League last season.
The Arsenal transfer rumour mill at the moment only is able to churn out rumours of their Spanish Maestro leaving the club. Today it has been confirmed that he will not be a part of the group which will travel to Germany leaving many to believe that he is now trying to a force a move away from the Emirates.
That concludes our look at the rumours making the back pages today and we take a trip across the pond to look at the ongoing labour situation with the NFL. As reported yesterday the NFL owners have voted and now agreed on a Collective Barganing Agreement (CBA) which could lift the NFL lockout. However don’t get planning your fantasy draft parties just yet as the players still need to agree to this CBA. Judging by players twitter accounts it may be a while before they agree to anything the majority of them are saying that they are close but the CBA will have to be tweaked before they agree to anything.
This is a great bit of spin by the owners to try and get the fans on their side by saying they want football but the players are getting greedy and want more money etc etc its a story as old as time in these situations. Most fans think owners are jerks anyway but in their desire for football they may just side with the owners on this one.
My honest view and i haven’t seen the full CBA just yet but i am 100 % sure the deal the owners agreed to will undoubtedly get them more more money and control and no change for the players thats a given. The Players association will have to fight tooth and nail to get their guys a fair cut and I do not see a speedy end to the process. Which is demonstrated in the cancellation of the Hall of Fame game in Canton which was announced today.
