Sunday saw day 4 of the test between England and India and after the first 3 days of the test England held the upper hand. England moved into the second Innings at the start of the day 5-0 but suffered an early wobble when they were left 107-6 which gave them a lead of only 295. It was the partnership of Matt Prior & Stuart Broad who rescued the innings for the home side with a potentially game winning partnership. Prior reached 103 not out and Broad ended on 74 not out when England declared on 269-6 giving England a lead of 458, which if India were to reach would be a record setting run chase at Lords.

India resumed after tea and went about chasing the potentially record setting chase and finished the day on 80-1 with Dravid and Laxman at the crease. Day 5 will settle the test with either team having the ability to win the first test.

Moving away from cricket news and onto some F1 news and the German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring and after what he described as his best qualifying lap he produced one of his best drives of his career. Lewis Hamilton won his second race of the season and moved to third in the overall drivers standings. He stood atop of the podium with Fernando Alonso in second and Mark Webber in third.

In his home race Sebastien Vettel produced his worst performance of the season when an error strewn race forced him to finish 4th however he still leads the overall standings by a comfortable 77 points.

The F1 will move to Hungary next weekend before taking a month off and Hamilton will be hoping that Mclaren can continue to work and keep improving their race speed.

In football news Celtic got their season off to the perfect start with a 2 nil opening day win over Hibernian thanks to goals from Anthony Stokes and Ki Sung-Yueng’s second half strike. Celtic will take a weekend break from the SPL as they have a contractual obligation to play in the Dublin Super cup pre season tournament. They will hope they can continue their form when they return to the SPL in 2 weeks time.

In other football news it is being widely reported that in The Queens New Year Honoours list that David Beckham will be knighted with the move being supported by the Prime Minister & Prince William. There is not a more deserving footballer than Beckham to get this accolade with his services to football and his charity work.
