Daily Sports news stories – England Cricket and Football Transfer News
Lets take our daily look through Wednesday’s sporting news and well begin by taking a looking at todays cricket news.
England faced Sri Lanka in the 4th game of the One day Internationals and a win for the Sri Lankan’s would clinch the series. With the cloud looming large over Nottingham and England Cook made no hesitation in choosing to bowl and his decision was quickly repaid.
With James Anderson swinging the ball and destroying the top of the Sri Lankan order with him taking 3 wickets along with a wicket from Tim Bresnan leaving the Sri Lankan’s on 20-4. After hearing calls for him being dropped from the team Stuart Broad stepped up at his home ground with 2 wickets which should silence some of his critics.
The Sri Lankan’s could only manage to make a score of 174 all out which was a target which all England fans were hoping that they could make. The rain would come to alter England’s target to 171 by the Duckworth Lewis Method. Alastair Cook & Craig Kieswetter would walk out to the wicket together and walk back to the pavilion as winners after either of them would not lose their in reaching the required target in just 23.5 overs with a great batting display. Cook hit an unbeaten 95 and Kieswetter hit 72, Cook has lead by example to take the captaincy and looks to have breathed a new life into the One Day Team.
With the win England levelled the series at 2-2 and the game at Old Trafford on Saturday is a winner takes all game and will be a cracking game to watch.
In the top transfer news story of the day Charlie Adam is close to getting his move to Liverpool after the club has appeared to have agreed a fee with Blackpool. Adam has been held in high regard by many teams but it looks as if Liverpool are the only team to have met the Seasiders valuation of the player. With the players Liverpool are assembling i think they may be a force to be reckoned with and must be targeting a Champions league spot.
In our final sport update well take a look at Dereks Jeters chase for 3000 hits and he managed to get 2 hits in last nights 9-2 win over the Cleveland Indians. Jeter is now just 4 hits shy of 3000 and for the first time Jeter has admitted himself that he is close to the 3000 hit target.
For anyone interested in buying tickets to the games bets have a few dollars to spare with the average price being around the $160 mark for the Yankees next 4 home games, but this is a small price to pay to witness baseball history.
