Daily Sports News Stories – Derek Jeter 3000 Hits, NFL Lockout and the Scottish Golf Open

Fridays sporting news headlines we will take a look at more American Sports news and we will begin by looking at some baseball news.

Derek Jeters quest for 3000 hits moved a little closer after his double on Thursday night which moved him onto 2998 hits in his career. He is now only 2 hits away from the historic mark and will become the first New York Yankee on the list. However Jeter could not help the Yankees win against there AL East rivals as a 1 run pitching performance form Tampa Bay pitcher Jeff Niemann as the Rays would go on to win the game 5-1.

Jeter now has 3 matches to secure the milestone in Yankee stadium in front of his home fans and will face Rays Rookie pitcher Jeremy Hellickson on Friday night.

Staying with American sports and moving onto Basketball News and the announcement that Chinese basketball player Yao Ming is to retire. Yao Ming was the first overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft and has played 9 seasons in the NBA and has been named an NBA All star 8 times. His past two season have been blighted by injury which limited him to 5 games in the 2010-11 season and zero games in 2009-2010. He has without a doubt been the best Chinese player in the NBA and news of his retirement will be sad news to NBA fans around the world.

As the NFL lockout moves into its 115th day with little signs of the lockout ending many NFL fans will be wandering if their will be a 2011 season. During the next few weeks teams training camps will have been due to start and fans would be busy sorting out their fantasy drafts. In recent stories the main stumbling blocks are around Free Agency & the revenue split between the owners and the players. As an NFL fan myself I will not be looking forward to a winter with out some gridiron and will have to turn my attentions to college games but it just isn’t the same.

I really hope that the weekends talks can move the process forward as we have seen when other sports have had a lock out it can be damaging to the game.

For our final story on sporting event we will move to Scotland where the Scottish Open moved into its Second Round. The second day suffered from some turbulent weather which caused an early halt to proceedings on Friday Afternoon and left World number 1 & 2 Luke Donald & Lee Westwood out on the course with their second round still to be completed.

However the Early groups had the best of the weather and the star of the day was Graeme McDowell who shot an 8 under round of 64 to move to 11 under for the tournament and a 3 way tie for the lead.

The players who are left to play there 2nd round will be out early on Saturday morning and will be hoping for some dry weather in Inverness.

Well that wraps up another recap of the days sporting action so be sure to check back tomorrow for some more news and analysis from Real Sporting News.
