Daily Sports News Round Up – NHL Playoff Finals

Welcome back to todays wrap up of the sporting news to have made the headlines in the sporting world and well start with the action from the TD Garden in Boston for Game 3 of the NHL Playoffs 2011.

The action began with the score still tied at 0-0 when a vicious off the puck hit by the Canucks Aaron Rome on the Bruins Nathan Horton, the hit left Horton out cold on the rink and lay motionless for a few minutes. He was then strechered off the rink with the fans silent and the Bruins team visibly shook up by the incident and even the Canuck players looked shaken by the event.

The 2nd Period belonged to the Boston Bruins as they came out firing scoring within 11 seconds of the restart with a goal from Andrew Ference and the followed that up with a Mark Recchi goal with only 4:22 gone in the second period. The scoring did not stop there with the Bruins scoring 2 more goals later in the second period with goals from Brad Marchand & David Krejci to give the Boston Bruins at 4-0 lead at the End of Period 2.

The 3rd period took time to get going but it was again the Bruins fans who were celebrating when Daniel Paille managed to put the puck between the pipes to give the Bruins a 5 goal lead. Any Vancouver fans if they hadn’t already left the building or changed the channel had a moment to cheer when Jannik Hansen scored his 3rd goal of the Playoffs and gave the Canucks a consolation goal. The Bruins were however not done in heaping misery on the Canucks and scored 3 more goals before the final buzzer with Mark Recchi scoring his 2nd goal of the night and Chris Kelly and Michael Ryder also finding the net.

The game finished 8-1 to the Bruins and was the joint second biggest winning margin in Stanley Cup Playoff history and sent the Boston fans happy. The game cant help but be overshadowed by the Injury to Nathan Horton who has been ruled out for the rest of the Playoffs due to a Severe concussion. For Aaron Rome’s late hit the NHL has handed him a 4 game ban which will rule him out for the remainder of the series a fitting ban for a hideous hit.

The win for the Bruins leave the series at 2-1 and the Vancouver Canucks are going to have to pick themselves up from this beating and Boston need to continue this momentum and channel any aggression at the injury to their team-mate into lifting the Stanley Cup.

The Test Match between England and Sri Lanka ended in a rather un spectacular finish compared to the first test with the match fizzling out to a draw. England declared 343 runs ahead which meant that England were unable to lose but had a chance still to take 10 wickets in the 58 overs remaining. However England could only take 3 wickets in the overs that remained and the Second test resulted in a draw. The final test in the series will begin on the 16th June where the Rose Bowl will host its first test.

Finally wrapping up the stories on sporting events Martin Jol was today unveiled as the New Fulham Manager and will replace Mark Hughes. Mark Hughes is still being mentioned for the vacant posts at both Chelsea & Villa leaving Barcelona fans rejoicing that Pep Guardiola is all but ruled out and looks to be stain in Spain for at least one more season.

That wraps up another headline news day of sport and be sure to check tomorrow for the round up from game 4 of the NBA playoffs at Real Sporting News.
