Daily Sports News Headlines – NHL Stanley Cup 2011

With the NHL playoffs moving into game 4 the teams can put behind them the horrendous hit and injury to the Bruins Nathan Horton and focus on the rest of the series and lifting the Stanley Cup.

The Bruins began Game 4 in the same way that they played in Game 3 with an attacking flair and power that has perhaps been lacking for the start of the playoffs and maybe the Injury to Horton has created that fire. The Bruins opened the scoring on 12 minutes when Rich Peverley scored his 3rd goal of the playoffs when he slotted the puck into the net. That completed the scoring for the first period and 2 goals in quick succession in the second period from Michael Ryder & Brad Marchand gave the Bruins the big advantage heading into the 3rd period. The period only had 1 further goal and Rich Peverley doubled his scoring tally and secured his team the 4 nil win.

One topic up for discussion for both teams is the performance of each of their goaltenders. For the Bruins Tim Thomas has been exceptional in this years postseason and that was demonstrated in his 38 save shut out which was his 3rd of this post season. Where as Roberto Luongo in the past 2 games has conceded 12 goals and could give the Canucks a selection headache come Game 5.

The Canucks head back home and must ensure that they win the game back on home ice otherwise they may struggle heading back to Boston which would force them to win away from home which on merit of these performance may be an uphill task. Game 5 will take place on Friday in vancouver.

Moving down the east coast of the US the greatest rivalry in baseball took place with game 2 of the 3 game series. Boston sports fans wouldn’t have been able to wipe the smiles of their faces after a win for the Bruins and a win for the Redsox over their bitter Rivals the Yankees. The Redsox won the game 11-6 behind a home run apiece for Carl Crawford, David Ortiz & JD Drew. The win was the 7th win for the Redsox over the Yankees and have won all 5 matchups in the Bronx. The only thing for the Yankee fans to cheer about was Derek jetted getting another hit leaving him 11 hits shy of the historic 3000 hit milestone.

The third game of the series takes place tonight with the Yankees desperately hoping for a win.

Moving away from American Sports the transfer rumours are now beginning to heat up with the News that Ashley Young’s representatives have met with officials from Manchester United with many believing that a deal will be done soon.

Barcelona also now look to be out of the running to sign Cesc Fabregas as their transfer budget has been reported at only £40million which means they look to be too short on signing the Spanish superstar.

That wraps up another recap on stories on sporting events and be sure to check back tomorrow for a recap on tonights NBA Playoff game 5.
