Daily Sports News Headlines – NBA Playoffs 2011 and Queens Club Tennis
Welcome to the Real Sporting news wrap up of the sporting action that have been happening in the world of sports over the past 24 hours. Well start with the action stateside where Game 5 of the NBA Playoffs was at a knife edge with the winner being in pole position to take the title.
The Mavs were playing their last home game in the series and after last night the playoffs will finish in Miami. In many peoples eyes the Mavs had to win game 5 as a loss would have left them needing to win back to back games in Miami which would be a tough proposition.
The Mavs did exactly just that and won Game 5 with their biggest win of the NBA Finals so far with a 112-103 scoreline which was also the highest scoring game of the Finals so far. There is no prizes for guessing who the star performer was for the Dallas Mavericks it was Dirk Nowitzki who lead all scorers with 29 points, 6 rebounds and 3 Assists and was perfect from the free throw line and was the star man on either team. Nowitzki was backed up by his team with 4 other players getting into double figures and of the supporting cast Jason Terry was the star with 21 points and 6 assists.
So what about the Miami Heat? it wasn’t a poor performance but the defines which had been so stern throughout the playoffs deserted them tonight but they get to chance to right these wrongs before Sundays Game 6.
Lebron James was under the spotlight and he performed with a 17 point 10 rebound & 10 Assist night but his 4th quarter shooting woes continue and was confined to just 2 points in the 4th quarter. In this years playoff finals James is averaging only 2.2 points per game which is a poor contribution from a player of Lebrons calibre.
The shift back to Miami might be what Miami need to start feeling the love as their is certainly no love for the Heat in Dallas and perhaps not much love anywhere outside of Miami. The Heat will draw strength from the Lakers last year who trailed in the series with Boston 3-2 when heading home but won the 2 remaining games to be crowned champs. Its possible and that is what Heat Coach Erik Spoelstra will be drumming into his players whilst in the other dressing room Rick Carlisle will be telling them are just 1 win away from the Franchise’s first NBA title.
In other American sporting news the Boston Redsox continued this seasons dominance over the New York Yankees with a 8-3 win behind solid pitching from Josh Beckett. Dereck jetted managed a hit a moved to be only 10 hits away from the 3000 hit club.
Moving across the pond and to England where the action at Queens club the tradition tennis tournament in the run up to Wimbledon is heating up. To many Brits pleasure there are 2 Brits still in the hunt with both British number 1 & 2 still in the mens draw. James Ward the British number 2 defeated reigning queens club champion Sam Querry 3-6 6-3 6-4 to set up a quarter final with Frenchman Adrian Mannarino. Meanwhile Andy Murray is already in the Semi Finals after Marin Cilic withdrew due to an ankle injury.
That concludes todays dialy roundup of the stories on sporting events and be sure to check back this weekend for more highlights and analysis.
