Daily Sports News Headlines – NBA Playoff Finals 2011
With European sport pretty much at a standstill it is up to American sports to make the headline news in the world of sport.
Taking a look at the NBA Playoffs the Heat took on the Dallas Mavericks in game 4 and this game followed suit of the the previous 3 games. The American Airlines centre in Dallas full of expectant and both teams did not disappoint in an end to end battle. The game was even and neither team could break through in the first 3 quarter but it was the 4th quarter when the game and Dirk Nowitzki got going. Nowitzki who was struggling with a Sinus infection and a high temperature to lead his team on a 21-9 run over the final 10 minutes to give the Dallas Mavericks the 86-83 victory. Nowitzki was yet again the catalyst for the Mavs scoring 10 of his 21 points in the 4th quarter and hit the decisive layup which put the game beyond Miami. Miami did have a chance to send the game into overtime but an uncharacteristic ball handling mistake by Dwayne Wade left Miami having to force up a shot for the win.
Lebron James game 4 performance will be put under the microscope with his Career Post season low of 8 points and also put an end to a 433 consecutive games (Regular & Postseason) where he has scored double figures. Before this game many in the media have been speculating that Lebron hasn’t stepped up in the 4th quarter of games in this Finals series the proof was shown tonight when he failed to score in the 4th quarter.
This was a big win for the Mavs not only for the fact that no team has come back from a 3-1 series deficit but also because they now only have 1 home game left in the playoff series. They have put themselves in a solid position as another win on Thursday will mean when the playoff series returns to Miami the home team will have to win back to back games something neither of these teams have done in this series.
To catch the action in the US on ABC and in the UK & Europe you can catch it on ESPN and game 5 begins on Thursday.
staying with American sports the Greatest Rivalry in baseball began last night with the New York Yankees taking on the Boston Redsox at Yankee Stadium. This was the 7th meeting so far of the season between the two giants of the AL East and in the previous 6 encounters the Redsox had won 5 of them and that trend continued with the Red Sox taking a 6-4 victory and the 6th victory against their fiercest of rivals. The Victory game behind solid starting pitching from Jon Lester who earned his 8th win of the season and then a 200th Career Save from Jonathan Papelbon. For the Yankees Faithful the bad news kept coming when in the first Inning Mark Texieira was hit on the right knee by an wild pitch from Lester fortunately he was not seriousl hurt and is listed as to day for his return. Positive News For Yankee fans was Derek Jeter getting 2 hits leaving him just 12 shy of the 3000 hit milestone.
There are 2 more games left in the 3 game series and they take place on Thursday & Friday.
