As the Premier league draws closer teams are finalising their squads to compete within the league. One transfer rumour to have come out of today is that Gabriel Obertan looks to be moving from Manchester United to Newcastle United. The 22 year old French winger has been unable to break in to the Man Utd first team since moving from Bordeaux in the summer of 2009. Obertan played 28 games for Manchester United scoring his only competitive goal in United’s Champions League tie with Bursaspor. Obertan will join Newcastle who have had a busy Summer as they have also signed Demba Ba, Yohan Cabaye & Sylvain Marveaux.

This is not a huge departure for United but if Man Utd transfer rumours are to be believed a big arrival may be on the way in the form of Wesley Sneijder. The 27 year old Dutch midfielder also believes he is on the way out of the San Siro if the right deal can be made. The Sneijder saga has rumbled on with many teams linked to sign the midfielder but his wage demands have put many teams off. His present wage is believed to be in the region of £225’000 per week and teams are asking him to take a cut to below the £200’000 per week. There is one thing for sure we will find out if there is any truth behind the rumours when the window slams shut at the end of August.

Arsenal have confirmed the signing this evening of young English winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Southampton for a fee of £12million. Oxlade-Chamberlain was seen as one of the brightest stars in the football league and Arsenal will hope he will be as good as Theo Walcott who they signed from the south coast club in 2006. He joins Wenger’s 2 other Summer signings Carl Jenkinson & Gervinho.

In other football news England have called up Tom Cleverley to replace injured team mate Michael Carrick and is inline to get his first full England Cap. Kyle Walker has also been brought into the squad to replace the injured Glen Johnson. The England friendly will take place on Wednesday with Capello expected to experiment with his squad ahead of the European qualifiers in September.
