Daily Sporting stories update – Wimbledon Finals & Haye V Klitschko

Saturday was packed with sporting action with the Wimbledon Womens final between Maria Sharapova & Petra Kvitova and the Heavyweight title fight between Wladimir Klitschko & David Haye.

So lets start with the boxing news in a fight that had been hyped up for over 2 years since David Haye joined the Heavyweight ranks but ultimately Hayes mouth was writing cheques that his performance could not cash. Haye had consistently trash talked the Ukraininan champion but when Haye started the fight his explosive display that he had promised never materialised.

Haye was made to look like a boy by Klitschko and was always on the defensive and never threatening Klitschko with any major blows. Klitschko’s dominance was shown in the judges scorecard where he won by a large margin on all 3 judges scorecards. In winning the fight Klitschko has now unified the division by winning Haye’s WBA belt and both Klitschko brothers now hold all the belts in the heavyweight division.

After the fight was done Haye revealed that he had broke his toe 3 weeks ago during his training for the fight and claimed that this was the reason for his lack of movement. In my honest opinion i believe that with or without a broken toe he would not have beaten Klitschko but a more mobile Haye may have made for a better fight.

The fight itself wont go down as a classic and would have done nothing to turn a casual fan to the sport but did go to prove that Wladimir Klitschko is the dominant force in the heavyweight division.

What is next for Haye? well if he stays true to his word his retirement in October when he turns 31 but Haye wont want to retire on a loss so i would expect to see him take 1 last fight as a farewell fight.

Moving away from the disappointment at the rain soaked stadium in Hamburg to the brilliant sunshine at Wimbledon 2011 where Maria Sharapova took on Petra Kvitova. Sharapova was back in the Wimbledon final where she won the tournament back in 2004 and entered the match as the favourite. However it was the 21 year old Kvitova who would win the famous Wimbledon trophy the Venus Rosewater Dish with a straight sets 6-3 6-4 victory. Kvitova played some great tennis as was a worthy winner of womens 2011 title and is the first Czech to win the title since Jana Novotna in 1998.

That concludes our round up of Saturdays stories on sporting events and we will be back tomorrow for the Mens Wimbledon final & the 3rd One day International between England & Sri Lanka. So be sure to check back tomorrow for some more Real Sporting News.
