todays top action is just a warm up for this weekends events.
Today has been a massive day in tennis with the semi finals of this years French Open have reached their thrilling conclusion. The earlier match up saw Britain’s Andy Murray attempt to Beat Raphael Nadal in what promised to be a interesting match on what was Nadal’s birthday, as it turns out although Nadal struggled at times he managed to break Murray early on to set the tone for the rest of the match. Murray did however have his chances and managed to break Nadal three times in total during the match unfortunately he was unable to capitalise and prevent Nadal from winning the match, sending Nadal to his sixth Roland Garros Final in Seven years. In the end Nadal battled through some tricky situations to win in straight sets taking the first 6-4 then the second 7-5 after a tie breaker then the final set was won again 6-4.
In the Second Semi Final there was the tantalising meeting of Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, many would of doubted that Federer would have stood a chance against Djokovic who entered the game on an awesome 43 unbeaten match streak. But all good things must come to an end but Djokovic did not go down easy but lost a closely fought first set 7-5 the second set also went to Federer with a 6-4 scoreline, the third set however went to Djokovic after he returned to the form displayed on his earlier winning streak and broke Federer twice to win the set 3-6 only to have the fourth set go to Federer after another closely fought tiebreaker.
With Federer victorious this sets up the eighth grand slam final meeting for Federer and Nadal with Nadal having won five of these matches, also of note is if Nadal does manage to win this final he will tie with Bjorn Borg’s record who has won the French open a fantastic 6 Times.
In the world of Basketball you will want to check out some highlights from Game 2 from the NBA Playoff Finals, the Miami Heat won the initial game of this series in impressive fashion beating the Dallas Mavericks 84-92. Well with Dwayne Wade sinking a 3 pointer with just 7:44 left on the clock putting the Heat 15 points clear, many a sporting expert had written off the Mavs however after an early celebration from the Heat the Mavs were not pleased.
What happened next was nothing short of inspirational with the Mavs led by none other than Dirk Nowitzki went onto a stunning unanswered scoring run to lead the game. The Heat struggled to convert any points with the Mavs finishing the game as winners at a score of 95-93, this caused the Heat to lose their first game of this play off campaign and has left many wondering if the Heat have the correct mental attitude to win this championship after their premature celebrations.
