Champions League Results Game 4 2011
Tuesdays nights Champions league fixtures saw action from the teams within groups E,F,G and H, 8 matches took place last night that had varying impacts for the various teams. So then lets start with the Champions League results from game 4 of the Champions league group stage, the Champions League standings at the start of tonight’s matches meant that many teams would be able to secure their place in the round of 16 for the first time.
In group E of the Champions League 2011-12 we saw Valencia meet Bayer Leverkusen whilst Chelsea travelled to Genk. In the Chelsea game they took the Early lead with a goal from Ramirez in the 26th minute but the real shock came in the second half, when in the 61st minute Jelli Vossen scored the equaliser to confine Chelsea to a draw. Meanwhile in Valencia the Spaniards were making short work of Bayer Leverkusen, Jonas scored a goal in slightly more than 10 seconds which is the 2nd fastest goal to be scored in the UEFA Champions league ever. Bayer managed to get a 31st minute equaliser before Valencia took the lead back in the 65th minute with a goal from Soldado, then in the 75th minute Rami rounded off a 3-1 victory for Valencia. This result means Valencia keep the pressure on group leaders Chelsea in this UEFA Champions League 2011 group stage.
Next up in this Champions League Game 4 round up we have the results from Group F where we saw Arsenal play host to Marseille and Borussia Dortmund host Olympiacos, this set of matches didnt offer up much in the way of Champions league highlights. Although the game ended in a 0-0 draw Arsenal will be more than happy with their performance against Marseille as they remain top of group F. Over in Germany Borrussia Dortmund kept their hope alive with a 1-0 win over Olympiacos after a 7th minute goal from Grosskreutz.
In the remaining games from the 2011 Champions League schedule week 4 there was much bigger news, in Group G for example we saw the surprise team APOEL FC take on FC Porto. I am always one to favour the underdogs being a Walsall FC season ticket holder so the 2-1 victory of APOEL in this game, drama does not begin to classify this game APOEL were winning 1-0 until the 89th minute when Porto were awarded a Penalty Hulk converted and a draw looked to be the outcome. This was until Manduca stepped up to convert just a minute later from superb cross supplied from Constantinos Charambides. This victory for APOEL means that a further victory against Zenit St. Petersburg will confirm them as the first Cypriot side to qualify for the European Champions league round of 16 stage. Zenit beat Shaktar Donetsk 1-0 meaning APOEL are still top of group G one point clear of Zenit, this means the Zenit v Apoel match will be an enthralling game.
Champions League – Final Results
We only have 2 remaining Champions league matches coming from Group H, Barcelona showed absolute dominance in their match against Vikroria Plzen by chalking up a 4-0 victory with Lionel Messi scoring a great Hatrick. AC Milan met with FC Bate in Minsk, the itialians however could only manage a 1-1 draw after giving away a penalty which was converted by Renan Bressan in the 55th minute cancelling out Ibrahimovic’s 22nd minute goal. This combination however has seen AC Milan and Barcelona become the first 2 teams to qualify for the Champions group of 16 stage.
With even more Champions League Week 4 games taking place tonight there are sure to be some great scores, I am off to see the Manchester United game tonight so I will give a match report tomorrow in the mean time enjoy tonight’s Champions League live action and check back tomorrow for the results roundup.
