On Tuesday & Wednesday saw the closing Champions League Results of the group stages and Tuesdays Champions league results brought a mixed bag of results for the Premier League sides.
Chelsea needed a win or a draw to guarantee themselves into the last 16 of the Champions League and they got a deserved 3 nil win over Valencia at Stamford Bridge.
Drogba opened the score in the 3rd minute after good work from Juan Mata, Ramires doubled their advantage and Didier Drogba made sure of the win with a cool finish with 14 minutes remaining.
In the other Champions league results for English teams Arsenal suffered a 3-1 loss to Olympiakos but Arsenal had already qualified for the knockout stages of the competition. Arsenal had rested many of their usual starters as they already knew they would top their group.
In other Champions league results from Tuesday saw Barcelona defeat BATE Borisov 4 nil at the Nou Camp & Marseille qualified for for the Champions League last 16 with a 3-2 away victory against Borussia Dortmund.
Champions League Results – Both Manchester clubs Crash out
Wednesdays Champions League Results saw both Manchester clubs fail to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages. Man Utd would travel to Switzerland to face Basle knowing a draw would see them qualify.
However Man Utd would lose 2-1 after conceding an early goal when David DeGea could only kick away a cross straight to Streller scored in the 9th minute. With 6 minutes remaining Alexander Frei doubled their lead to ensure their safe passage through. A Phil Jones consolation wasn’t enough for United who fail to get through the Champions League Group stage for only the 3rd time in 17 years.
For Man City they defeated Bayern Munich at Eastlands 2 -0 thanks to goals from David Silva & Yaya Toure but it wasn’t enough as Napoli defeated Villarreal 2 nil.
Man Utd & Man City will now go into the Europa League which will please neither teams sets of fans but will bring some big names into the Europa League.
