Champions League 2011 Week 4 Results

Champions League Wednesday saw the Champions League week 4 games take place and for the Manchester EPL clubs have successful evening with both teams winning there Champions League 2011 group games.

Man Utd took on Romanian club Otelul Galati at Old Trafford with many pundits and fans expecting a large scoreline for the Premier League champions. However the Romanian side stubborn backline only conceded two goals in Man Utd’s win.

Antonio Valencia scored a close range finish early in the first half after a low cross from Phil Jones. The Old Trafford faithful would have to wait until the 87th minute for the games second goal when a deflected Wayne Rooney strike hit the back of the net.

With the Man Utd score line and the 1-1 draw between Benfica & FC Basel allowed Man Utd to top the group on goal difference in their Champions league standings.

Champions League – Away win for City

Man City helped their chances to qualify for the Champions league knockout stages with a 3 nil away win against Villareal. Man City took the lead on the half hour mark when Yaya Toure scored from just inside the 18 yard box. City doubled their lead in first half stoppage time when Mario Balotelli scored from the penalty spot after he was fouled in the box.

Man City made sure of the result when Toure got his second of the night to give Man City the 3 nil victory in Spain. If Man City beat Napoil in their next match they will qualify for the knockout stages. Bayern Munich defeated Napoli 3-2 to top Group A and almost guarantee their spot in the last 16.

In other Champions league results 2 goals from Cristiano Ronaldo gave Real Madrid a 2 nil away win at Lyon and Inter Milan got a 2-1 home win against Joe Cole’s Lille.

In more Champions League results Ajax defeated Dinamo Zagreb 4 nil whilst there were draws in the games between Trabzonspor & CSKA Moscow.
