NFL Combine – Whats it all about?
The NFL Combine allows the 32 NFL teams to see how the prospects fare in a series of tests which can help determine the physical fitness of a player. The NFL Combine in current season has seen players move up and down the draft board dependant on their performance.
The NFL Combine 2012 features 6 standard drills which all combine participants will take place in with each test aiming to measure the speed, agility and strength of the player.
2012 NFL Combine News
The NFL Combine drills feature a 40 yard dash to measure the players speed with scouts looking for explosive power from a standing start. The Bench Press is a test of strength were the athlete has to see how many times he can lift a 225 pound weight. Another power test is the Vertical jump which sees the player aiming to jump as high as he can which is like the 4th test which is the Broad Jump which sees the player trying to jump as far as he can.
The other 2 NFL Combine drills are the 3 cone drill where the player runs around 3 cones in a ‘L’ shape trying to show his ability to change pace at speed. The final test is the Shuttle run which sees them run 5 yards then 10 yards then 5 yards again to show quickness and explosive speed.
If those tests went enough for each they have NFL Combine position drills which are specific to a players position. For QB’s they will have them coming out of the snap doing 3,5 & 7 step drops and for WR’s they will get them running routes.
The NFL scouting combine is a weeklong event running from the 22nd – 28th February and you can watch the 2012 NFL Combine live on the official NFL Website and on the NFL Network.
2012 NFL Super Bowl – Giants 21 – Patriots 17
2012 NFL Super Bowl – Giants Win
All the talk before the 2012 NFL Super Bowl was revenge for the Patriots over a Giants team that ruined there perfect season back in 2008. However for the Patriots there wait to claim revenge over the NY Giants will have to wait as it was the Giants who reigned supreme as the 2012 NFL Super Bowl Champions.
The 2012 Super Bowl’s first score was an unconventional one as Tom Brady drew an intentional grounding in the end zone giving the Giants a 2-0 lead. The first quarter also saw the New York Giants score a touchdown when Eli Manning hit Victor Cruz for 9-0 first quarter lead.
However the 2nd quarter belonged to the New England Patriots who scored on a 29 Stephen Gostkowski 29 yard field goal and a Tom Brady touchdown pass to Danny Woodhead for the 10-9 half time 2012 NFL Super Bowl lead.
At half time the football action stopped and the 2012 NFL Super Bowl half time show took centre stage with headline act Madonna joined on stage by LMFAO, Nikki Minaj & Cee Lo Green. After the nearing on half hour break the action on the field restarted.
The New England Patriots extended their lead when Aaron Hernandez caught a 12 yard touchdown pass to give them an 8 point lead at 17-9. Before the third quarter drew to a close two Lawrence Tynes field goals brought the score to 15-17 as the 2012 NFL Super Bowl entered the 4th quarter.
2012 NFL Super Bowl – 4th quarter win
Like with many of the Giants wins this season quarterback & 2012 NFL Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning executed a 88 yard drive to win the match. Ahmad Bradshaw rushed in for a 6 yard run to see the Giants take the 21-17 lead with just 57 seconds remaining.
The time left on the clock proved to be too little for Brady to work with and left the New York Giants as the 2012 NFL Super Bowl Champs with a scoreline of 21-17.
The victory for Eli Manning is his 2nd Superbowl win & his second Super Bowl MVP award whilst giving the Giants franchise 4th Super Bowl win which leaves them tied in 3rd spot with the Green Bay Packers.
Well that concludes our look at the 2012 NFL Super Bowl and we bid congratulations to all in the Giants franchise as we look ahead to the 2012 NFL Draft.
