Phoenix Open 2012 Day One

Phoenix Open 2012 – Ryan Palmer Leads

phoenix openAfter Day one at the Phoenix Open 2012 it is Ryan Palmer who tops the leader board, he has put much of his Day one success down to his excellent putting form. In fact his excellent putting so far in this tournament has been down to the re-discovery of an old putter he found in his garage back home. Palmer managed to hole 7 birdie puts which left him on a score of 64 which gives him a narrow lead of one shot at the top of the Waste Management Phoenix Open Leaderboard 2012.

Keeping in close contention in this years behind Palmer is Webb Simpson he currently sits in 2nd spot after he set his round alight with five birdies in just 6 holes, he finished up on a 65 which was -6 for the first round.

Phoenix Open 2012 – Play Suspended ?

One of the most impactful situations on this years Phoenix Open has been the suspension of play shortly after 6pm due to failing light conditions. Admittedly this wasn’t helped by play being delayed earlier in the day for an hour because of frost out on the course.

At the start of play in Day 2 of the Phoenix open 2012 the chasing pack is made up of a number of players still to finish their lead. Two shots off the lead on 5 under par is Bubba Watson and Spencer Levin who both have 3 holes left to play. Then we have Jason Dufner who lost a playoff in this tournament last year also on 5 under but he has 5 holes still to play, so 2 more birdies with no bogeys would see Dufner matching Palmer’s round one score.

Further back in the field is Phil Mickelson who got his full round in for a 3 under par score of 68 and Defending Champion Mark Wilson chalked up a respectable 1 under par finish of 70.

At this stage of the Phoenix Open 2012 it is any ones guess who will claim the top spot by the end of play come Sunday. The winners will recieve a $1,098,000 share of the $6.1 million dollar purse. Check back for more Phoenix Open 2012 updates

Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship 2012 Day 2

Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship – Proves to be a great location

Abu Dhabi HSBC golf championshipThe PGA European tour has continued this week with the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, the big draw of this championship has alot to do with the prize money on offer but also the chance to play on a very well kept and unique golf course at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club.

The Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf championship has continued to draw in the sports top names including Tiger Woods amongst the many other European tour regulars. One thing for sure is the fact that this tournament is highly competitive and deserves the respect it receives from the tour players.

The Championship course at the Abu Dhabi golf club is one of the finest golf clubs in the middle east, and it is often hard to believe that the course has been manufactured in the middle of a Desert. In fact it is only the plentiful selection of Palm trees than give away its exotic location, not that today’s professionals are distracted by the pristine surroundings. In fact on a personal note watching the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship 2012 this week has been a welcome distraction from the freezing conditions I am expecting to play in on my local course on Sunday.

But enough about me what really interests you is how our stars are faring on the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship leaderboard, so I’ll start with Tiger Woods. Tiger started round 2 of the Abu Dhabi HSBC golf championship 3 shots from the lead after day one but thanks to a solid performance including 3 birdies in 5 holes, Tiger ended day 2 only 2 shots off the lead. In fact if he hadn’t had such a bad drive on the 16th where he dropped a shot we would of seen Woods in second spot At the end of day 2.

Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship – The rest of the field.

Woods will be looking forward to the remaining 2 days of the 2012 Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship with a clear chance of a win. This is not to discount the rest of the field which sees a total of 7 Players holding onto a tied 4 position of 5 under par amongst these players are Rory McIlroy and Robert Rock who’s form continues to improve. On 4 under Par we also see some familiar faces in Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington and Charl Schwartzel.

The real performances on the second day of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship came from the top 3 players In fact Matteo Manaserro scored a 7 under par 65 to move into tied 2nd place with Gareth Maybin. The Abu Dhabi HSBC golf Championship tournament leader after day 2 is Thorbjorn Olesen who built on his 2 under par 70 on day one to post a 5 under par 67 in today’s round, Olesen looks in good shape to build his lead on this challenging course.

Moving onto the 2011 Thailand Golf Championship final round, Westwood despite his lead being cut by Schwartzel, Westwood did not falter on the final day and shot a 3 under par round of 69 to complete what he believes is his best ever display. Westwood finished the competition on 22 under par for the 2011 Thailand Golf Championship and with the victory moved to second in the World rankings behind fellow Englishman Luke Donald.

Charl Schwartzel who had closed the gap to 4 shots after his 3rd round performance and was the closest in the 2011 Thailand golf Championship field to Westwood.
