England Become World Number One Test Cricket team and more

Monday saw England complete the demolition of India when they wrapped up their 4-0 series whitewash to well and truly claim the title of Number 1 test team. England won the 4th & final test by an innings and 8 runs claiming their first series whitewash over in since 1974. For most of the summer Graeme Swann had been very much the forgotten man of the England bowling attack but he was pivotal in the win. Daily Sports News – England No1 Test Team & Football league round up

Saturday was the day when England became Number 1 after beating the tourists India by an Inning and 242 runs, their dominant win guaranteed that England would be crowned at the top of the test rankings.

After England had declared yesterday on Friday on 710-7 and the tourists had ended day 3 on 35-1 and would have to bat for 2 days to get anything from the match. The task would provide too much as India were unable to bat out day 4 as they were bowled out for 244 meaning that they have gone 3 test matches without topping over 300 runs. Read more…

England Test CricketEngland continued their dominance the 3rd test with India as they declared on day 3 after reaching a total of 710-7 giving them a lead of 486 runs.  The score of over 700 runs was just the 3rd time England had reached a score that high, the other 2 occasions were in timeless tests in 1930 &1938. Opener Alastair Cook ended up finishing just 6 runs shy of 300 runs when he was caught at backward point. Cook will hold his head high as he has been the star of the innings scoring the 6th highest score by an English batsman. What is more embarrassing for India is that Cook had individually scored more runs than their whole battling line up in the first inning. Cook was supported at the crease by a patient 104 from Eoin Morgan and Tim Bresnan continued his good form with the batboy reaching an unbeaten 53. Read more…

There is one word to describe England’s performance in day 2 of the Third test at Edgbaston and that is dominant. England batted through the whole 90 overs of the day and only lost 3 wickets during the days play.

In the days play England added a total of 372 runs to their overnight total of 84 to close day two on 456-3. The day belonged to Alastair Cook who ended the day sitting on 182 not out and will look to make his double century as England begin batting. Cooks supporting cast were equally as successful with the bat with Andrew Strauss scoring 87, Pietersen scored 63 , Bell scored 34 and Eoin Morgan will resume day 3 on 44 not out. Read more…


Sports News Stories – England V India Cricket and Football Transfer Rumours

The third test between England and India started today despite the Riots which have taken place across the country. The third test was taking place at Edgbaston and England cricket fans will be delighted that the test went ahead.

England captain Andrew Strauss won the toss and decided to bowl in favourable conditions and it didn’t take long for the wickets to start falling. The first wicket fell with India only at 8 runs when Virender Sehwag glove a rising Stuart Broad delivery to Matt Prior behind the wickets. Umpire Steve Davis failed to see the nick on the field but the decision was reviewed and Hot Spot clearly showed contact between the glove & ball. Despite the early wicket the tourist began a period of recovery reaching 59 runs before the wicket of Gambhir was taken from the bowling of Tim Bresnan. The tourists wickets would then fall in a steady stream through out the rest of the day before they were bowled out for 224 runs. Read more…
