Stoke who were given their entry into the Competition after reaching the FA Cup final took a 1 nil lead to Croatia where they faced Hadjuk Split. Daily Sports News Stories – Football Transfer News and All Star Baseball

Tuesday was another slow sporting day with little sporting action so will focus on the latest football news.

The biggest transfer news story to come out today was the news this morning that the Brazilian Club Corinthians had made a bid for want away Man City star Carlos Tevez. The fee was believed to have been in the region of £35million which was still £5million short of City’s valuation. City had not made any comment on the situation and rumours had been circling that Tevez had already agreed personal terms with the Brazilian club. This evening Man City has rejected the bid and have said that they will need to increase their bid if they want to bring the striker back to the club where he spent two seasons in 2004- 2006 before leaving the club. The rejection of the bid only furthers the belief that Man City are in no rush to sell Tevez and will not be held to ransom. I think this is a great stance for a club to take and may finally begin to show the clubs taking power from the players and forcing them to honour their contracts. Read more…

Saturdays was packed full of sporting news with the Qualifying for the British GP at Silverstone, The fifth One day international, The Scottish Open and England’s Women football team in the Quarter final of the Women’s Woirld Cup.

Qualifying for the Brtitish Grand Prix produced a mixed bag of results as the home fans were left disappointed when the two English Mclaren drivers Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton could only qualify 5th and 10th respectively. This diminishes the hope of a English Winner for the race, however a surprise 6th place on the grid was for the Scot Paul Di Resta in his first British Grand Prix. Read more…

Derek Jeters quest for 3000 hits moved a little closer after his double on Thursday night which moved him onto 2998 hits in his career. He is now only 2 hits away from the historic mark and will become the first New York Yankee on the list. However Jeter could not help the Yankees win against there AL East rivals as a 1 run pitching performance form Tampa Bay pitcher Jeff Niemann as the Rays would go on to win the game 5-1.

Jeter now has 3 matches to secure the milestone in Yankee stadium in front of his home fans and will face Rays Rookie pitcher Jeremy Hellickson on Friday night. Read more…

Lets take our daily look through Wednesday’s sporting news and well begin by taking a looking at todays cricket news.

England faced Sri Lanka in the 4th game of the One day Internationals and a win for the Sri Lankan’s would clinch the series. With the cloud looming large over Nottingham and England Cook made no hesitation in choosing to bowl and his decision was quickly repaid.

With James Anderson swinging the ball and destroying the top of the Sri Lankan order with him taking 3 wickets along with a wicket from Tim Bresnan leaving the Sri Lankan’s on 20-4. After hearing calls for him being dropped from the team Stuart Broad stepped up at his home ground with 2 wickets which should silence some of his critics. Read more…
