Barclays Premier League Football Results – Sunday 28th August 2011

Sunday saw 4 Premier League matches take place and saw 2 of what could be the best performances of the season from both of the Manchester clubs. Man Utd took on Arsenal at Old Trafford and despite the disruption at Arsenal no one could have predicted the scoreline.

Man Utd handed Arsenal there worst defeat since 1896 with an 8-2 win which gave United their 3rd win in 3 games to maintain their 100% record and sent them back to the top of the Premier League table. The scoring started when a hesitant Arsenal defence allowed Welbeck in to head the ball home, Arsenal could have levelled the scores immediately but David De Gea saved Robin Van Persie’s penalty. United then doubled their advantage when Ashley Young curled a wonderful strike from 20 yards out and then Wayne Rooney scored a curling free kick to give United a 3 – 0 lead. Arsenal would pull one back in first half stoppage time through Theo Walcott to make the score 3-1 at half time.

Things would only get worse for Arsenal in the second half and Rooney scored his 2nd of the game with another curling effort which wrong footed keeper Szczesny and 3 minutes later Nani would make it 5 -1 with a delightful chip over the Arsenal keeper. Substitute Park would make it 6 when set up by Ashley Young before Van Persie scored an Arsenal consolation to make the score 6-2 after a mix up in United’s defence. Arsenal would face another uphill task after Carl Jenkinson was sent off for his second booking after fouling Javier Hernandez and things would get worse after Wayne Rooney secured the match ball when he slotted home a penalty to make it 7-2. Then deep into stoppage time Ashley Young completed the rout with another superb curling effort to complete the scoring at 8-2 and give Arsene Wenger one of the darkest days of his career.

Man Utd’s win came off the back of Man City’s win in North London over Spurs with a 5-1 win thanks to 4 goals from Edin Dzeko and a strike from Kun Agero. Both Manchester teams now have 100% records and look like they will be battling it out for the Barclays Premier League title. There were 2 other Premier League games taking place on Sunday with Newcastle picking up their second win of the season when 2 goals from Leon Best gave them the 2-1 win over Fulham at St James Park.

A stoppage time winner from Ryan Shotton gave stoke the 1 nil win over West Brom at The Hawthorns despite a draw looking like the most likely result for the majority of the game.

Well that completes our look at this weekends Premier League results from the English Premier league and the EPL will return in 2 weeks after the International break.
