Australian Open Golf tournament 2011 Day One
The Australian Open golf tournament teed off on Thursday with many fans easily awaiting Tiger Woods return to Australia ahead of the Presidents Cup later on this month.
Tiger Woods did not disappoint as he shot his first bogey free round in 9 months on his way to a 4 under par 68. Woods display showed glimpses of him getting back to his best with him hitting 14 out of 18 greens in regulation. Woods played in the Afternoon session at the Emirates Australian Open golf tournament where the weather was treacherous.
Woods however despite shooting a 68 still sits 3 shots back of the Australian Open golf tournament leader Australian Jarrod Lyle. Lyle who only has one top 10 finish so far this season shot an unblemished round of 65 on his way to leading the 2011 Australian Open golf tournament after day one.
Lyle is currently ranked 477th in the world and his opening round at the Australian Open golf was his best round of golf this year.
Australian Open Golf Tournament – Chasing Pack
In the Australian Open Golf leaderboard Lyle is only one shot clear of American Presidents Cup team mates Dustin Johnson & Nick Watney who are both on 6 under par.
Adam Scott who many considered a favourite for this competition sits on 3 under par 5 shots behind his compatriot Lyle and will have work to do over the course of the tournament if he is to win on home soil.
However the headline of the day at the Austalian Open golf tournament was John Daly’s withdrawal from the tournament after he hit multiple balls into the water off the tee on the 11th hole. The withdrawal from the tournament follows another withdrawal earlier this season after he was frustrated over a rules penalty.
Well that wraps up the action from Day one of the Emirates Australian Open golf tournament and be sure to check back for the latest Australian Open Leaderboard across the weekend.
