Daily Sports News Stories – Scottish Premier League Start

The weekend is upon us and a host of sporting headlines awaits us but none more important to a football fan is the early arrival of Scottish Football’s SPL we all have some live football we can all look forward to.

The SPL has decided to kick off early due to the fixture congestion caused but last years severe winter which forced the postponement of many weekends of football. It meant that for the last few months of the season most teams were playing 2 fixtures per week, which the SPL believed caused a detriment to the game and the players.

However managers have complained that the summer break is too short for its players where many have only had just over 2 weeks away from training. Many believe the break may lead to more injuries down the stretch of the season but only time will tell.

Teams have also complained that the shortened break has made them unable to complete and finalise their squads leaving many with threadbare teams and ongoing deals. The lack of squad could lead to a disjointed start to the season whilst teams get the players they need. Their may be teams struggling at the start but once their team is complete will push on, as even Celtic are still in the market for a number 1 keeper and a striker.

Enough about the negativity of the early kick off for many fans and writers including me find the gap too long and seem lost without Soccer Saturday & Match of the day on a Saturday.

The Scottish season kicks off this with 2010/2011 SPL Champions Rangers beginning their title defence at home against Hearts. The game begins a new era at Ibrox after Walter Smith stepped down at the end of last season his number 2 Ally McCoist stepped up is the New Rangers Manager.

McCoist’s main rival in the title chase will be Old Firm rivals Celtic who will again be lead by the passionate Neil Lennon and the 2 shared a confrontation after an Old Firm game last season will surely add more spice to this season.

Celtic begin their challenge to seize the title back from their rivals Rangers away at Kilmarnock and will be hoping to get a strong start to show their intent.

The end of the season seems so far away but at this stage of the season I believe the title race wont feature any major surprises with the title being contented the typical two Rangers & Celtic.
