2011 Thailand Golf Championship – Westwood Falters

2011 Thailand Golf ChampionshipThe 2011 Thailand Golf Championship moved into its 3rd day with Lee Westwood sitting atop of the 2011 Thailand Golf Championship Leaderboard by a clear 12 shots. Going into the third day the rest of the field were hoping for a poor day for Westwood and a great scorecard for themselves.

Westwood had his worst round of the tournament so far on Saturday as he shot a 1 over par 73 to sit at 19 under par for the 2011 Thailand Golf Championship. He struggled early on with a bogey at the 2nd and the rest of the scorecard featured another 3 bogeys and 3 birdies.

2011 Thailand Golf Championship – Schwartzel turns up the heat

With Westwood struggling it allowed Charl Schwartzel the 2011 Masters Champion to close the gap on the 2011 Thailand Golf Championship leader. After shooting a 66 yesterday Schwartzel followed it up with another 6 under round of 66. His round featured 7 birdies & just 1 bogey. He has closed the gap at the top of the leaderboard to just 4 shots meaning that Westwood winning the competition may not be a certainty.

The rest of the 2011 Thailand Golf Championship field may now be too far back to mount a serious challenge with the 3rd placed player Michael Thompson is 7 shots back on 12 under par.

The 2011 Thailand Golf championship is the showpiece event for the Asian Tour and features a $1million fund for the tournament. The competition takes place at the Amata Spring Country Club in Thailand. The Course is a 7453 yard 72 par course with its signature hole being the par 3 17th where the players will take a boat ride to get to the island green. The 17th hole has already caused problem and damaged many 2011 thailand Golf Championship scores.
