2011 Presidents Cup Day 1

The 2011 Presidents Cup began yesterday between the US & International teams  at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia. The Presidents cup threw up an interesting pairing in the first day with Tiger Woods facing off against former caddy Steve Williams & Adam Scott.

In the final pairing of the 2011 Presidents Cup day 1 foursomes Steve Stricker & Tiger Woods went up against Adam Scott & KJ Choi and it would be Williams & Scott who would have the last laugh.

Woods would suffer his worst defeat in a matchplay tournament when they were dismantled 7&6 with Woods unable to get a birdie in his round. It was a marked difference from 2 years ago when Woods & Stricker all 4 matches they were paired in.

The win for the International team in this pairing was the only Presidents Cup win the international side would pick up on the opening day. For the rest of the US Team it would be a good day as they managed 3 2011 Presidents Cup wins.

The 2011 Presidents Cup Pairings would got a victory were Bubba Watson & Webb Simpson’s 4&2 victory over Ernie Els & Ryo Ishikawa. Phil Mickleson & Jim Furyk defeated Retief Goosen & Robert Allenby 4&3 & Mahan & David Toms beat Kyung-Tae & Yang 6&5.

The other two 2011 Presidents Cup matchups would end in both matches being halved with both teams claiming half a point. At the End of play the 2011 Presidents Cup Standings at the USA 4 Team International 2.

With 3 days left to go there is still plenty to play for and the 2011 Presidents Cup is not over just yet. Tomorrows action will see 6 fourballs matchups and a chance for Team International to close the gap.
