2011 Golf World Cup Day 1
2011 Golf World Cup – Day One Highlights
The 2011 Golf world cup began on Thursday on Hainan Island in China where 28 countries are being represented in a stroke play tournament by two of there top players.
The 2011 Golf world cup is split over 4 days with 2 days being played as Four Balls with the other 2 days played in the foursomes style. The Golf world cup is unlike many team golf events as the tournament is played as stroke play rather than match play.
Moving onto todays action at the Omega Mission Hills World Cup many were expecting big things from the Irish duo Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell who have both won majors in the last couple of years. They did not disappoint as they ended the first day on 9 under par, their round featuring 1 eagle and seven birdies on their quest to become 2011 Golf World Cup winners.
However their first round was not enough to get them to the top of the 2011 Golf World Cup leaderboard as the currently sit 2 shots off the lead. The current leaders are the Australian duo of Brendan Jones & Richard Green who shot a 11 under round of 61. The Australians round featured 7 birdies and 2 eagles with one eagle coming on the par 4 16th.
2011 Golf World Cup – England, Wales & Scotland
Other home nations teams are not too far off the pace in the 2011 Golf World Cup with the Scottish duo of Martin Laird and Stephen Gallacher are tied with McIlroy & McDowell on 9 under. The English pairing of Ian Poulter & Justin Rose are 5 shots back in 10th place on 6 under with the Welsh 2011 Golf world cup team of Jamie Donaldson & Rhys Davies in 19th place on 5 under par.
The World Cup of Golf will now move into the second day of action where the format of the competition will switch to foursomes play which may favour some of the leads which struggled on day 1.
Well that wraps up our review of the Omega Mission Hills 2011 Golf World Cup 1st day so be sure to check back tomorrow for more action from the Golf World Cup China.
