England Euro 2012 – England make hard work of Sweden

England Euro 2012
campaign moved into their second game in Group D after a battling 1-1 draw with Group D favourites France on Monday. England faced Sweden who lost to Euro 2012 Co-Host Ukraine 2-1.

France Deafeat Ukraine 2-0 England Euro 2012

Earlier in the day France had defeated Ukraine 2-0 in a delayed game at the Donbass Arena after electrical storms & heavy rain caused the ref to pull the players off the pitch. The win for France meant they went atop of the group with 4 points and put the pressure on England to win their match up with Sweden.

So England made just one change from the team that started against France with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain being replaced by Liverpool striker Andy Carroll meaning England played in a more conventional 4-4-2 formation. It didn’t take long for that change to take effect with Carroll opening the scoring with 23 minutes on the clock. A deep cross from England Captain Steven Gerrard was headed in by Carroll to give England a 1-0 nil lead which they would continue till half time.

The lead at half time for England was muchly deserved after havingthe better of the chances and left Sweden Euro 2012 looking like they were to face an early exit from the competition.

In the second half however Sweden came out with the bit between their teeth and managed to equalise just 4 minutes after the restart. England poorly defended a Sweden free kick which allowed Olof Melberg score and it was a similar story 10 minutes later. As Melberg scored his 2nd of the game after he headed into the net uncontested with 30 minutes left to play and give Sweden a 2-1 lead.

With England’s Euro 2012 hopes in tatters all eyes were on England Boss Roy Hodgson on how he could resurrect his sinking ship. His plan was to bring on Arsenal’s Theo Walcott to replace James Milner and his plan worked perfectly.

Within 4 minutes Walcott had levelled the score after his curling effort form 20 yards out went passed Isaksson in the Sweden goal & Walcott was involved in England’ s winner. Walcott showed his pace by defeating 2 Sweden players in the box and crossing for Welbeck to deftly back heel to give England the 3-2  lead and the 3 points.

This is the second round of games in this group after Germany defeated Portugal & Denmark shocked Holland in the opening games in Uefa Euro 2012 Group B.

UEFA Euro 2012 – Portugal 3 – 2 Denmark

The early game of tonights Uefa Euro 2012 results saw Portugal taking on Denmark in what was a must win game for Portugal as a loss would see them out of the competition. It was Portugal who made the perfect start scoring in the 24th minute with a thumping near post header & Portugal doubled their lead through a close range strike from Helder Postiga to give Portugal a 2-0 lead. However Denmark would reduce their deficit through a smart headed finish by Nicklas Bendtner just before half time.

Denmark would then level the match in the 80th minute as another strong header from Nicklas Bendtner tied the game. Yet the scoring was not over yet as a stunning strike from Silvestre Varela in the 87th minute would give Portugal all 3 points and a lifeline in Group B.

Germany 2 – 1 Holland – Uefa Euro 2012

In the second game of the night from Euro 2012 saw Germany take on Holland who again needed a win to stay competition but Germany were too efficient and too good and defeated Holland to effectively book their place in the Euro 2012 Quarter finals.

Germany took a 2-0 half time lead thanks to a Mario Gomez first half double, his first goal was a smart finish after a neat turn inside of the box, whilst his second was  a great strike from the corner of the box.

Robin Van Persie scored a superb 20 yard strike to make the score 2-1 but the goal would simply be a consolation goal as the Germans efficiency shined through.

Euro 2012 – England kick off campaign with a draw

The Euro 2012 group stages reached the final group which was Group D which features co hosts Ukraine, France, Sweden & England. The 2 obvious favourites from Group D are France & England but they have both had difficult tournaments as of late and they opened the tournament in Donetsk.

Euro 2012 England campaign has been under the radar with limited expectations from the English football fans and the same can be said for France Euro 2012 hopes despite carrying a 21 game unbeaten record into the tournament.

Euro 2012 – England v France

The Euro 2012 Group D opener featured England & France and both teams were looking to open their Euro 2012 Campaign off with a win & England had the better of the Early exchanges as James Milner rounded Lloris in the France goal only to shoot wide.

However it would be England who would open the scoring after captain Steven Gerrard whipped it a free kick which was headed home by Joleon Lescott on the half hour. For Joleon Lescott it was his first goal for the England Senior Team and sent the England fans at the Donbass Arena into raptures.

However the lead for England would only last 9 minutes as the England defence gave Nasri too much room and he slotted a precise 20 yard past Joe Hart at his near post.

The scores would be tied at 1-1 at half time both teams would have been satisfied & the second half was a lot tighter with France getting the better of the chances but the scores would stayed tied at 1-1 which would be a fair result for both teams.

In the second game of the UEFA Euro 2012 Group D saw co hosts Ukraine take on Sweden in Kiev and after a drab 1st half the action was kept for the 2nd half. Ibrahimovic gave Sweden the lead but Ukraine would come from behind to win 2-1 thanks to a Shevchenko double to leave Ukraine on top of Group D after the first game.
