Champions League Results – Bad night for English Football
Champions League Results 2012 – Round of 16
In tonight’s Champions League results we were treated to the delights of 2 top quality games both of which produced plenty of drama. All 4 teams in action tonight were fully aware that any slip ups tonight would mean that they will be out of this years Champions League competition. Tonight’s games were between Chelsea and Napoli and Real Madrid and CSKA Moskow.
The first game we will look at tonight is the game between Chelsea and Napoli. From a English perspective Chelsea were left firmly holding the English flag after the disappointing display from Arsenal last week, could Chelsea improve on English Champions League results. As things turned out Chelsea made a good start to this game and Juan Mata got the vital first goal in this game, even more important it was a vital Away goal. This goal would of been fantastic for Chelsea if their leaky defence wasn’t so very poor, Napoli got an equalizer in the 39th Minute from Ezequiel Lavezzi. Then in the 2nd minute of added time of the first half Edinson Cavani pushed Napoli into the lead and Chelsea’s world began tumbling down. Their defeat was compounded when Lavezzi scored Napoli’s third and final goal in the 65th minute. This defeat will undoubtedly start the footballing word expecting Andre Villas Boas to depart the London club, however I am more concerned about the poor Champions League results of English clubs in this seasons Champions League in general.
Champions League Results – Any new Favorites?
Of course with the English clubs now out of the running we look to the other contenders from the other Champions League results from the remaining games in this round of 16. So to complete tonight’s Champions League results we look to Moscow to see if Real Madrid can keep pace with Barcelona. After 28 Minutes Cristiano looked to be doing a good job of taking his team into the 2nd leg with a healthy away lead. All looked well for Real until the 3rd minutes of added time at the end of the 2nd half Pontus Wernbloom scored the vital equaliser for CSKA.
More Champions League results will follow tomorrow night and we hope to bring you news of those games tomorrow as well as future Champions League results from the remainder of the competition.
